Robert F Dunton, MD, FACS

Robert F Dunton, MD, FACS Cardiothoracic Surgery

Dr. Dunton is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon. Prior to joining Bon Secours, he had been a cardiothoracic surgeon at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Concord, N.H. since 2001. He has served as the medical coordinator of the Concord Hospital Open Heart Program and as an assistant professor of surgery at Dartmouth Medical School. He has been involved in academic activities at Northeastern University Perfusion Training Program and research activities for the Northern New England Cardiovascular Disease Study Group.

Dr. Dunton received a Bachelor’s degree in biology from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, and his medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, N.Y.  He did a general surgery internship and residency at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Conn., where he received the Upjohn Outstanding Intern Award. He was a senior resident in cardiac surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital and completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. Dr. Dunton has also earned a Master's degree in Bioethics from the Union Graduate College and the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY.

He has co-authored and published numerous articles and has presented papers to many surgical societies. He has been a member of the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular Surgery and Anesthesia since 2004. Dr. Dunton is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Surgeons and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

Harry A Allen III, MD Radiology

Dr. Harry Allen graduated from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem. He completed his residency at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland and a fellowship in Body CT and Ultrasonography at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He teaches at Eastern Virginia Medical School as an Assistant Professor of Radiology. 

Dr. Allen's areas of special interest include CT, Ultrasonography, and MRI.

Judith Blevins, MD

Judith Blevins, MD Radiation Oncology

Dr. Judith Blevins is the radiation oncologist at the Martha Davis Cancer Treatment Center at Maryview Medical Center. Entering med school in her mid 30s (“dreams vs insanity”) with a husband and 3 school aged children, she graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School, then completed residency in Radiation Oncology there as well. Following that, she continued on at EVMS as an Assistant Professor in Radiation Oncology for 3 years. After a short stint practicing in Elizabeth City, Dr. Blevins returned to the area and joined Oncology Associates of VA in 1999; she has been practicing here since.

Diane M Maia, MD Hematopathology and Anatomic Pathology

Dr. Maia graduated from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, in 1991. She completed her residency in anatomic pathology and fellowship in surgical pathology at Stanford University Hospital and did additional fellowship training in hematopathology at University of North Carolina Hospitals. Upon completion of her training, she became the assistant professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, with clinical duties in both surgical and hematologic pathology. There, she was awarded The Phillip M. Blatt Award for Outstanding Teaching in Clinical Pathology. While at UNC, she also served as associate director of hematopathology and assistant director of molecular pathology. She is certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic pathology and hematopathology. She has been a member of Kingsley Lane Pathology Associates since August 2000. Her professional intersts include hematopathology, and gynecologic and breast pathology.

Susan E McKenzie, MD

Susan E McKenzie, MD Radiology

Dr. McKenzie is a graduate of Eastern Virginia Medical School. She served her internship at Anderson Memorial Hospital in South Carolina and her residency in radiology at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. McKenzie practices with Medical Center Radiologists in Norfolk, Virginia.
Vandana A Patel, MD

Vandana A Patel, MD Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine

Vandana A. Patel, MD, is an assistant professor of internal medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, Va. In addition, she is medical director for pulmonary rehabilitation and ICU services at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va.

Dr. Patel earned her medical degree from the M.S. University: The Baroda Medical College in Baroda, India. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Woodhull Medical Center, an affiliate of SUNY Health Science Center, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and earned a fellowship in pulmonary diseases from SUNY at Stony Brook, N.Y., and Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, N.Y. Dr. Patel has been in private practice since 1991 and has been a integral part of the Hampton Roads medical community since 1992.

Dr. Patel is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine. She is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and has served in various leadership roles at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center.

George Saman, MD

George Saman, MD Medical Oncology and Hematology

Dr. S. George Saman graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of Damascus. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri Health Sciences Center. He continued on to his fellowship in Oncology and Hematology at H. Lee Moffit Cancer Center at the University of South Florida where he was also Chief Fellow.

Dr. Saman attended the Health Management and Informatics Masters Program at the University of Missouri. Dr. Saman has done research in hemoglobin and acute leukemia. He is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine.

Dr. Saman lives in Norfolk with his wife and daughter. His hobbies include soccer, running and swimming.

Carlos A Silva, MD Critical Care Medicine

Dr. Silva graduated from the National Autonomous University in Nicaragua and completed his internship and residency at The Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens, an affiliate of Cornell University. He also completed a fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center.

Dr. Silva is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Geriatrics. He has been a member of the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular Surgery and Anesthesia since 2004.
