Eric J Freeman, MD, FCCP Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine
Eric J. Freeman, MD, FCCP, serves as medical director of respiratory therapy at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth and as chair of the hospital’s critical care committee. He is also on the community faculty as an assistant professor for clinical medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va.
Dr. Freeman holds a bachelor’s degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va., where he also completed an internship and served a residency. He earned a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the George Washington University Hospital & Veterans Administration Hospital Program in Washington, D.C. He also served in the U.S. Navy as a medical officer.
Dr. Freeman is certified by the National Boards for Medicine. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and of Pulmonary Medicine of America. He is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and also a member of the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Physicians, the Virginia Thoracic Society and the National Association of Medical Directors for Respiratory Care. He is also certified by the U.S. government to evaluate chest x-rays for occupational lung disease.
Subramanian Malaisamy, MD, MRCP (UK) Critical Care Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine
Dr. Malaisamy, MD, a board-certified pulmonologist, is associated with Bon Secours Pulmonary Specialists in Portsmouth, Va. Dr. Malaisamy sees patients with pulmonary and critical care problems, and has a special interest in patients with sarcoidosis, interstitial lung diseases, lung cancer and bronchoscopy with ultrasound (EBUS).
Dr. Malaisamy holds both a bachelor of medicine and a bachelor of surgery from Madras Medical College in Madras, India. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Yale University in Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn., and has a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care from Wayne State University, Detroit Medical Center, in Detroit, Mich.
Dr. Malaisamy completed much of his postgraduate training, including studies in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, cardiology and neurology, at various hospitals in the United Kingdom. He is a current member of the Royal College of Physicians in London, and holds the prestigious diploma MRCP in general medicine.
Dr. Malaisamy is board certified by the American Board of Critical Care Medicine, the American Board of Pulmonary Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Medical Association and the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.
Prior to joining Bon Secours, Dr. Malaisamy was in private practice in Fort Worth, Texas, in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Prior to that, he was a faculty member in pulmonary and critical care at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va.
Ellis F Maxey Jr., MD, FCCP Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine
Ellis F. Maxey, Jr., MD, FCCP, holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. He earned his medical degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, Va., where he also completed an internship and served a residency. In addition, he earned a fellowship in pulmonary medicine from EVMS.
Dr. Maxey is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and of Pulmonary Medicine of America. He is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the American College of Physicians.
Amit D. Patel, MD Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine
Amit D. Patel, MD, earned his medical degree from the Gujarat University/N.H.L. Municipal Medical College in India. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, N.J. Dr. Patel has a fellowship in sleep medicine from Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, N.J., and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care from the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey (UMDNJ) in Newark.
Dr. Patel is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Sleep Medicine, the American Board of Pulmonary Diseases and the American Board of Critical Care. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and the American Medical Association (AMA).
Vandana A Patel, MD Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine
Vandana A. Patel, MD, is an assistant professor of internal medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, Va. In addition, she is medical director for pulmonary rehabilitation and ICU services at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va.
Dr. Patel earned her medical degree from the M.S. University: The Baroda Medical College in Baroda, India. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Woodhull Medical Center, an affiliate of SUNY Health Science Center, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and earned a fellowship in pulmonary diseases from SUNY at Stony Brook, N.Y., and Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, N.Y. Dr. Patel has been in private practice since 1991 and has been a integral part of the Hampton Roads medical community since 1992.
Dr. Patel is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine. She is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and has served in various leadership roles at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center.
Mythili T. Venkataraman, MD, FCCP Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine
Mythili T. Venkataraman, MD, FCCP, earned her medical degree from the Kilpauk Medical College in Madras, India. She earned a fellowship in critical care medicine from the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, N.Y., and a fellowship in pulmonary medicine from the New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens, an affiliate of Cornell University, in Flushing, N.Y. She served a residency in internal medicine at Woodhull Medical Center, an affiliate of SUNY Health Science Center, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Dr. Venkataraman is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care. She is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and a member of the American Thoracic Society and the Society of Critical Medicine.
Leah Zuniega, MD, FCCP Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine
Leah Zuniega, MD, FCCP, holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of the Philippines at Los Banos, Laguna, in the Philippines. She earned her medical degree from the Philippines College of Medicine in Manila, Philippines, where she also completed internships in general medicine and family medicine. In addition, Dr. Zuniega completed an internship at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, N.Y., where she also served a residency in internal medicine. She earned a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx.
Dr. Zuniega is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a diplomate in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care. She is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and also a member of the American Thoracic Society, the Virginia Thoracic Society and the American Lung Association.
