The Lord gave him a chance and brought him to us. We're going to do the right thing for him.
Our Mission calls us to be good help to those in need, especially the poor and dying. Sometimes, fulfilling our Mission comes in unexpected ways. One year ago, an infant was left in a suitcase at DePaul Medical Center. Now that little boy is being called "the chosen child," getting a new life with a new family.
When Linda and Andre Lloyd look at baby Xavier, they see a happy baby boy with a life full of hope. But this wasn't always the case. Initially, he was known as the "abandoned baby," left inside some baggage by his mother outside DePaul Medical Center. The Lloyds remembered seeing this story on the news, but didn't know how it would change their lives forever.
After 10 years waiting for a foster child, the Lloyds got the call they had been waiting for. "When they told me if was an infant that needed to be placed, I had no idea this was the baby abandoned at DePaul." Mrs. Lloyd says. When they met their baby, the Lloyds knew in their heart that this was different; "It was love at first sight."
But there was one thing they could not escape, thinking about his biological mother.
"He deserved life. She did what she felt was best, and we see it as a blessing," said Mrs. Lloyd. The Lloyds say in the future if Xavier's biological mother wanted to meet him, they would welcome her with open arms. She continues, "At the time, she couldn't give him a home. I just want her to know that he is in a loving home, and we will take very good care of him."
"The Lord gave him a chance and brought him to us. We're going to do the right thing for him," Mr. Lloyd says.
The Lloyds are making sure Xavier knows he has always been loved, from the moment he was delivered to the moment he became a member of the Lloyd family, making him more than just an "abandoned baby." Mrs. Lloyd says, "That is it. It's not even in our vocabulary because abandoned feels like he was secluded. Like I said, she put him in a safe place and we just took it from there."
