"My wife of 71 years was taken ill and was brought to Maryview Emergency Room with a number of medical complications. Following extensive tests and examinations, she was admitted to the hospital's 6-North care where her condition rapidly declined. At the recommendation of the attending physicians, she was placed in hospice care, and four days later she lost her struggle for life.
The purpose of this letter is to request recognition of the staff that gave my wife unlimited compassion and care during this period, and also provided support for my family and me during this difficult time.
I find it necessary to point out that this was not the first time my wife required the services of Maryview. On at least two previous occasions, she was admitted for care. During those occasions, our experience was less than comforting. However, you should take great pride in the improvements the hospital has instituted over the past few years. My, and my family's, experience this summer would indicate Maryview's care for its patients has undergone a dramatic change for the better. We could not have expected or asked for more caring attention to my wife's needs during this critical time. The entire staff demonstrated exceptional expertise in the care of a patient in my wife's condition, and while performing their duties, every step in the process of providing the needed care was accompanied with compassion for the patient and family.
I believe Maryview Medical Center can take special pride in the care and devotion you provide your patients. The staff's performance is proof of the efforts you have taken to improve the services the hospital provides the community, and my family and I are most grateful."
