The Center for Birth delivers above average care.
As healthcare professionals, we at Bon Secours Hampton Roads witness some of life’s most significant milestones- that includes the birth of new children. The letter below is from the father of a baby delivered under the care of Yvonne Tollefson and Megan Bennett, nurses with The Women’s Center at DePaul Medical Center.
"I must recognize the outstanding work of your nursing staff during the recent birth of our daughter. While the entire team provided excellent care, allow me to bring to your attention the fine work of Registered Nurses, Yvonne and Megan.
Yvonne respectfully greeted us at the start of her 7 a.m. shift. She was efficient in her work while taking the time to education us on the labor and delivery process. As a first time parent, I was impressed with how frequently she entered the delivery room to monitor my wife’s progress and offer true compassion. Some nurses simply follow methodical standards of care, but Yvonne was different. She took the time to listen to our needs and went the extra mile to perform services she is overqualified to perform, such as retrieving ice and popsicles to improve my wife's level of comfort. Yvonne is a class act - competent and knowledgeable of her profession.
I also appreciated Yvonne's honesty. Although my wife and I hoped that Yvonne would see us through the delivery, her shift ended about two hours before our daughter was born. I am sorry that the conclusion of Yvonne’s shift prevented her from seeing the end result of her efforts, but the transition from Yvonne to Megan was seamless. Megan should be commended. Yvonne made sure we were matched with someone we would be comfortable with and made a smooth handoff.
My wife lost a lot of blood during delivery. I am convinced Megan and her team literally saved her life. She had a blood transfusion the following day and has recovered nicely. Megan was an excellent 'coach' and held our hands as we crossed the finish line, Precious moments deserve precious nurses and you have one in Megan."
Lyn Harrington, Administrative Director of the Women’s Center, echoes this new father, "Megan and Yvonne are outstanding nurses who consistently go above and beyond for their patients. I am proud of them, and the entire Birthing Center Team. We are World Class!"
